Donna, I have some information on Elias Alley, the father of Elias b. 1767 that seems to differ from yours. The information I have is: Elias Alley was born 11 Oct 1730 in New Rochelle, Westchester County, NY, and died abt. 1826 in Dutchess County, NY. He married Jememi Edwards in NY in 1758. [This information is according to a family Bible in the possession (in 1928) of Mattie E. Moore nee Mattie Alley of Lagrangeville, Dutchess County, NY.] The Bible record, which was left by James Alley, son of Elias, lists: 1. James Alley b. 16 Oct 1761 NY 2. John Alley b. Jan 1763 NY 3. Elias Alley b. 1767 NY 4. Moses Alley b. 31 Oct 1771 NY 5. William Alley b. abt 1773 in Canada 6. Phoebe Alley b. 1774 7. Peter Alley b. 1778 8. Elizabeth Alley b. 1780 This information would indicate that Elias moved to Canada by 1773, and not 1782, or so. A note in some of James' writings states "Elias was a farmer who 'removed' to Canada 'because the soil (in NY) reminded him of the sand box at Ann's kitchen door that she kept to teach the puppy house manners." (Ann was the wife of his brother Henry.) My sister and I are working on the Alley family history which we believe goes back to Jean Allee b. abt. 1672 in France, d. bef. 1719 in NY, NY, who married Elizabeth Perdineau abt. 1691 in France. Much of our information came from work done by Edward Stoddard Alley prior to 1928. He was a distant cousin of my maternal grandmother, Maud Alley Smith. Edward compiled the work between 1894 an 1928. He had access to family Bibles and direct contact with family members born in the 1800's. I would be happy to hear from you and share what I have.
