John Heywood Alley, Jr. was born 1814 in Rutherford County, NC. His parents were John H. Alley and Urcilla Hampton. John H. Alley, Sr. served as sheriff of Rutherford county, and in the General Assembly. He was also the father of Frederick F. Alley, who also served as sheriff of Rutherford County. John Alley, Sr.'s father is believed to have emigrated from England. John Sr., may have been born in England or in VA. One source lists his father's name as Cedric. A Shadrack Alley is listed in the 1790 Rutherford County Census, not sure if this could be the same person. Shadrack Alley was a Justice of the Peace in Rutherford County.
