Allensworth connection

This is probably only the first of many postings, as I just found this forum for the first time. I have quite a bit of information on Allensworths in Ky., which is probably where some of them went after leaving Va.
However, and this is my #1 question, do any of you Allensworth researchers realize you are looking at two (maybe interbred) groups of Allensworths--white and African-American?
After Emancipation, more than a few former slaves owned by the Allensworth familyor families?, in Ky. at least, adopted their former owners' last name and headed out for new lives, some as far away as California (Ever hear of the accomplished Colonel Alan Allensworth? He has his own state historical park!).
I have met a family of black Allensworths (I am white) in Indianapolis, a town where many former Kentucky slaves moved. One lady told me she thought her gg'father had been born in Guthrie, Kentucky, which is where my grandfather, Steven Kay Allensworth, married my grandmother, Jennie Taliaferro, and had seven children.
Secondly, I have come to believe, due to the lack of any native-born Allensworths in the British Isles (according to the LDS genealogy library in SLC), that the name is, alas, a corruption of Hollingsworth or Hollinsworth, which is well represented in Britain.
I would be excited to read your responses and information. Thank you in advance.
Judy Allensworth, b. 1950, daughter of
Billy Walker Allensworth, b. 1919, son of
Jennie Taliaferro Allensworth & Steven Kay Allensworth of Guthrie, Kentucky
