Hi Chris, I wrote you back in June and I might as well throw in my two cents. In having so many Allen connections in the 1730s and 40s time frame of Stafford and the three children of James Withers marrying Allen children, I've been keeping my eyes peeled for Allen records.I've found two that may help bridge the gap between Northumberland and Westmoreland, Aquia/Stafford.
When looking at odd connections I stumbled upon Joseph Croshaw in an early record of 1638 mentioning 600 acres, assigned by William Prior gent to Joseph Croshaw in Charles River Co, at the bottom of the record it reads...This patent was surrendered and renewed in the name of William Allen #573.
I also found this obscure record of transport from Northumberland (implied into the waterways claimed by Maryland) and on up the coast to Westmoreland, therefore being a lawful transport into Virginia.
doc #343, Thomas Robbinson transport 20th Nov 1683, claiming Jonathon Allen, along with other Bashaw's (Thomas Keene's cousins in 1640s Kent Island, MD, transported into Northumberland in 1645 together, lived in Westmoreland and St Stephens parish together) and Coxall's (Coggeshall, Coxall, connected to Gosnold/Keene in 1580s Suffolk, Eng).
On the same page #343, 20 Nov, 1683, Jonathon Lewis (married Keene's granddaughter), Wm Wither (father to James Withers whose children married Allens) William Allen (probably your family) and others, also connected from Northumberland to Westmoreland.
On the previous page #342, 20th Nov, 1683, 4 persons into the colony, including Alex Thorly (from 1640, Keene's wife was Thorley) and Jonathon Garner (Keene's dau m Jn Garner).
On page 345, 20 Nov, 1683, John Wood, (grandson married a Withers grandaughter around 1780), Elizabeth Kenne (Thomas Keene's dau in law), all going to Westmoreland/Aquia from Northumberland.
Hope this helps a bit.I'm convinced the bulk of residents in Northumberland around 1650 were from Kent Island, VA/Maryland and some are found in the early Maryland records. In one of your deeds, you mention a Garrett and I thought of Richard Garnett/Garrett/Jarrett.His father was in early MD records about 1635, then Richard married a Bashaw girl, sister of Giles and Andrew Bashaw.Giles Bashaw was a brother in law to Richard Garrett on the Bashaw side, Giles was also a brother in law to Thomas Keene because they both appear to have married Thorley sisters. All these men are found in MD in the 1840 time frame.Good luck with your search.Cynthia
