Did you ever find a death certificate for Lloyd and see if his fathers name was listed on it. Or his marriage license. one or both might have listed his father. and also check out whether or not Lloyd might have signed up for the army. even if he was not old enough or young enough for either WW 1 or 2 he probably still registered.
