Early Marriages in Sangerville (Copies of the Original Town Records)
1825. John Robbins, Jr. of Guilford and
Sept. 18. Miss Polly Allen of Sangerville, by I. Macomber, J. P.
I have been trying to identify my g-g-g-grandparents for nineteen years without success and recently discovered the above noted marriage record.
I have been able to identify John Robbins and have traced his ancestry back to the Mayflower but I have been unable to identify Polly Allen. I do know that both of her parents were born in Maine.
She is listed as a seamstress, age 55, residing at Peru, Maine in the 1860 census taken on 6 Jul. Thus she was born between 7 Jul 1804 and 6 Jul 1805.
According to the 1880 Census, both of her parents were born in Maine. I believe that she was probably the Mary Allen who was born either 24 Jul 1804 at Manchester, ME or 29 Jul 1804 at Readfield, ME to Jotham Allen and T. Thankful Longly. However, Jotham was born at Braintree, MA so this does not agree with the 1880 census listing.
Polly married second about 10 Sep 1860 at Peru, Maine, Henry Barron.
Any information on Polly/Mary would be greatly appreciated.
