No, I am afraid not. The only Allens mentioned in the book are Robert and Thomas Allen, listed in the index as pioneers in Rabun Co., GA, as identified on the 1830 census. There are no Allens mentioned in any of the folk humor tales of the book, but perhaps some of their kin or neighbors. Not sure of any connection there.
But interesting you would mention Thomas Sampson, b 1787 in NC, as I have him in my family tree! (On a distant collateral line). This is the Thomas Sampson who married Catherine Kelley. He died in Walker Co., GA, in 1855 and she died in Nevada Co., AR, in 1871. Unfortunately I do not know of either of their parents. But here is a link to them and all the info I have on them.
