Carolyn,
I can't give you any concrete help but if you are not aware of the following info, it might be helpful. About ten years ago when I first started searching for my ancestors, I discovered a family tree on line for this family. At first I thought it was my line so I became vey excited and saved it to my computer. However I soon became aware that it was probably not my line. When I purchased a new computer about 5 to 7 years ago, I did not get this tree transferred to the new computer. I have tried unsuccessfully to locate it again so I will list my memory as far as it goes.
The first generation listed was William Allen who lived in the Baltimore, Md area in about 1700. This family along with some other Quakers moved to, I believe, Orange county NC in the mid 1700's. As you suggest, some of them then moved to Tenn in the late 1700's. Also some of them moved to Indiana in 1806 and settled in what is now Richmond, In. In about 1810 to 1815 A Hugh Allen and his wife Frances Morton joined the Indiana settlement. It was through them that I thought I was connected.
As I remember the names Hugh and James are repeated in almost every generation.
My ggrandfather was Jonathan Allen in Breathitt County, Ky. I found one reference that his father was James Allen. If you find any connection I would be most appreciative if you would let me know about it.
