Hello Guy and welcome to the forum:

Unfortunately most of my present info about the Allardyce family comes from an old family book that addresses itself to my direct line, with some exceptions. To answer you I can only make an educated guess. There was a John Allardyce living in 1628 who had 2 sons. James, who succeeded him and Thomas. My direct line possibly comes from James and the book does not give any reference to the fate of Thomas and his line. I would venture to say that your John comes from this Thomas. As Jim Allerdice pointed out, we are a relatively small family. Let me know if you find any answers;

Regards, Sara Allardyce Rhine
p.s. there is a jump between James living in 1642 (and no reference to Thomas)and Sir John Allardyce who married Lady Mary Graham and I do know for sure that we are from this John.
