Note from a letter written by William Marshall, Richmond, Virginia, November 1, 1911:
"There was a W.H. Allardyce of Philadelphia, living in 1869-70, who had a son Winslow Allardyce, a cadet at West Point.This W.H. Allardyce visited in Richmond, Virginia, in 18699-70, and then returned to Philadelphia.He was a friend of Samuel Freedley and also of the Jacby family of Philadelphia.He returned to Philadelphia from Richmond in 1871."
Peter Allardyce was a resident of Philadelphia, mentioned in "The Picture of Philadelphia" by James Mease, 1811.
James Allardyce, a Scotchman, died in New York City, February 20, 1913, on the day of the receipt of the comiler's letter concerning his family.
THE PHILADELPHIA EVENING BULLETIN, Oct. 21, 1910, contained a long article on His Magesty's Governor of the Falkland Islands, the heading of which was as follows:
RULES FAR AWAY FALKLAND ISLES.
W.L. ALLARDYCE FOR 31 YEARS HAS SERVED IN SOUTH SEA ISLANDS IN VARIOUS CAPACITIES.
CANIBALISM ABOLISHED.
A trilobite discovered by Governor Allardyce in the Falkland Islands was named DIAPHOSASTONIA ALLARDYCEA..
