My family are descended from a line of John Allardices in the Rutherglen area, on the outskirts of Glasgow, also referred to as Cambuslang. They were coal miners and had moved there from Ayrshire in the early 1800s. The family often took the mother's or grandmothers maiden name as the second name of the eldest son, so one of these was probably and Allardice. We have a reasonably comprehensive tree going back to the mid 1700s but I do not recollect seeing a Kilpatrick but can have another look for you. It is almost certain they would have been related as their were several related Allardice families in the census records for Rutherglen. Have you checked these records?

You can find much of our tree on www.allerdice.net under John Allardice's genealogy submitted by Isobel Hiscock.
