Sorry about the delay - my Dad (David Allan) is the one who has researched the Allan side of the family and I was waiting for him to pass me the info.
He's done a great job and is back 9 generations to ~1740.
I will email the family tree as it stands so you can perhaps figure out how your part fits in. Just to make life hard there are a few names which reoccur many times (e.g. James, Hugh, William, Margaret, Janet).
From what I can guess...
There are only 2 Archibold Allans that my Dad has identified. The most likely is Archibold Allan b.1843 because the other one b.1880 was married to Jean Houston and only had 2 children.
Anyway, I'll send you what I've got, and perhaps you could do the same in return? I'm sorry that it doesn't directly answer your question but it might help piece some of the puzzle together.
