Martha Burns Winn &James Charlton Allan
I have copies of a letter found in belongings of my gg grandfather. This is dated 3/20/1862 and addressed to Mattie Burns Winn & Edwin M. Winn Esgn in Allendale GA.This letter basically thanks them for their courtesy toward his wife during his absence and mentions that his family was indifferent towards them.It talks about his beloved Brother Robert had an untimely death and how he remembered him.It was signed your friend, T. Allan.
The penciled notes on the page:"must have been speaking of his 1/2 brothers and 1/2 sister or his 2 sisters, Emily and Elizabeth. We know William is dead at this time and Henry died between 1862-1863.I'm sure he expected more from Sarah who we know was married.I still don't know if he had any Aunts or Uncles, or etc. around."
Notes on page 2 "I have been told this rural farm is between Belton and Alto. They say the only time you can get through the underbrush is in the winter. There is suppose to be an Allan family cemetary there, but this is about all they will tell me.Most of the Allan's I know won't talk much about my side of the Allan's either.Perhaps it's because of the hard feelings over David contesting James will, that's been passed down."
Does anybody know any of the history behind the Allan/Allen's??
