Hi, my name is Efrain Alicea. My dad, Efrain Sr., passed away a few months ago. He and my mom, Leonore Millan, were from a town in Yauco called Rancheras. My mom and I live in New York City. Dad lived in Ponce for the last 14 years or so. We were apart for all that time and I visited him last year for the first time. A tearful, but incredibly heart-warming reunion I don't have much info on that side of my family. My mom says that my Dad's parents were Emiliano Alicea and Erminia Alicea. That's all I know about them. I believe I met them twice as a child before their passing. Recently my wife, a NYC School Teacher, was approached by one of her students, a little girl, who asked her, "What's your husband's name?" She said, "Efrain." This is not uncommon as students want to know about their teachers' lives. However, the next morning the little girl, Cristine, and her mother approached my wife. Her mother, Catherine, says, "I believe your husband is my cousin." We are first cousins. Her mother is my father's sister. Needless to say we've chatted on the phone and are planning to meet very soon. I'm excited to finally connect with this side of my heritage and I look forward to what Catherine explained as "a reunion we have been having of Alicea in Yauco for the past 14 years." She brought me to tears when she said, "You can now stand for your father at this reunion." I'll keep you posted! E Notify Administrator about this message?
