Aulgur

My family lore has 3 brothers sent from England (maybe Ireland) around the 1790s to establish a business for their father. He may have been involved in shipping. The brothers landed in New Orleans. One of them (again, according to family tradition) gambled away the money. The brothers changed the spelling of the family name to Aulgur. In early census listings, my ancestor, Jeremiah, is listed as Alger. He was in Wayne, Russell and Pulaski counties in Kentucky in the 1810-30s.

Does anyone have info on these brothers or where they may have come from?

I don't have the names of the other brothers, though one of them may have had a son named William, who is also in that part of Kentucky and then moved to Illinois.

In the 1840s most of these Aulgurs left Kentucky for Saline County, MO.
