I am researching the ancestors of OR lumber magnate Hollis Alger. Reference "Portland OR History": http://books.google.com/books?ei=mkQ3TtLbEMPVgQf-3-GHAg&ct=result&output=text&id=XvYUAAAAYAAJ&dq=Hollis+Alger&ots=2BgAKpoKMo&q=Alger#v=snippet&q=Alger&f=false Search Hollis Alger if it doesn't connect. Excellent bio.

Bio states that Hollis Alger was the son of Lyman and Eliza Dufur Alger and that Hollis was raised primarily in Quebec, CA, born in the US and his parents were Americans. It states that this was Lyman's second marriage, the first to a Martha.

Cemetery records in Sherbrooke, Quebec: http://www.interment.net/data/canada/qc/sherbrooke/elmwood/elmwood_a.htm

History of Cattaraugus Co, NY (an origin of my Brooks family several generations earlier, coincidentally, the reason I have accessed this family as I search for my Brooks ancestors Marcena & Sarah Brooks, parents of Washington S. Brooks, father of Almira Brooks Alger) http://files.usgwarchives.org/ia/clinton/bios/olive.txt.

I'm noticing that this is probably two separate families with some information confused via internet inconsistencies, but there are enough consistencies I'm curious. Thoughts, especially in light of the many early deaths in this/these famillies?
