1. JONATHAN1 ALGER was born 1630 in England. He married SARAH UNKNOWN.
Notes for JONATHAN ALGER:
A couple of years ago a very old lady in NY contacted Charles Alger, an Alger researcher who is writing a book on the Alger family. She was in her nineties and asked him if he was the researcher of the Alger family. He replied yes. She read him a letter written by her grandfather or great grandfather in which he stated that Jonathan Alger was one of 50 reputable men sent to colonize the new world by Oliver Cromwell when he was on the throne. Based on the dates we have this could be true. We have no other proof. The first mention we have of Jonathan is in 1659 when his son Roger was born in Mass. colony. This would be consistent with Jonathan coming to America about 1650. Later on Jonathan moved to Lyme, New London CT. Many early records on the Alger family in CT still exist .

2. ROGER2 ALGER (JONATHAN1) was born 1659 in Salem or Boston MA, and died Bef. August 1725 in Old Lyme, New London Cty. Connecticut. He married (1) ELIZABETH INNIS in Lyme Twp. Connecticut, daughter of ALEXANDER INNIS and CATHERINE. He married (2) ELIZABETH BROCKWAY.
Notes for ROGER ALGER:
Some of Roger's children changed the spelling of the surname. We don't know the reason why.
