Alger Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Kurt,
You can find Fidel in the 1880 US Census at Morrison, Whiteside, Illinois. We do know that Fidel passed away in the Whiteside County Poor House abt 9 Jul 1881 at age 50, this information came from an extract from The Whiteside Sentinel. We do not know what happened to Rachel or where Fidel is buried yet. We believe that Fidel and Rachel were married in 1858 or 1859 in Jones County, Iowa (if I remember correctly I came up with this from free online Iowa marriages info). We do know some things about the kids. I think you are of the Fred & Emma Alger Stoessiger line? I think son John Alger was located in Scott County, Iowa (have not verified yet). Lola Alger married William Tallett and you can find them in Clinton, Iowa 1900 and 1910 US Census. The best we can figure out is Fred Stoessiger and Lola Alger both died then William Tallett remarried Emma Alger Stoessiger (see 1920 US Census Clinton,Iowa). Katie Alger is our line and married William Sears in Clinton, Iowa 22 Jun 1893. They moved to Chicago, Illinois and Minnie Alger lived with them (1900 Census, have not tracked Minnie from there). Willie or William Alger married Hermine Esmay abt 23 May 1895 in Lyons, Iowa or Morrison, Illinois (info from The Morrison Sentinel). That is what I have on the Alger family. If there are errors or anyone else wants to chime in, please feel free to do so.
Sincerely,
Kevin
