Hi .. Thanks for the reply. Jay alger was named Arthur Jay Alger. (1910 Census) His son. my father, was named Arthur Jay Alger as well. We've since found referance to WILLIAM Alger, married to Alvire, son Phineas in Syracuse NY. I have a photograph of two men in 1870-1890 garb standing in front of a ruined log cabin. It obviously hadn't been occupied in many years. I was told that the men were my greatgrandfather and his brother in front of the old Alger homestead. I don't know which brother. The information and photo originated with my Aunt Eileen before her death. I don't know which brother or if, in fact the one is my GGF. Both men are, I judge in their 40's. By chance do you have a photo of your GGF for comparison's sake? If interested, I would make a copy of this photo for you. Interestingly, My grandmother Alger (nee Gould) had sold land to a Briggs family in Apalachan NY. Wonder if it's the same family. I certainly would be interested in any further information you might have in your papers. Thanks again .. John Arthur Alger, Swannanoa NC Notify Administrator about this message?
