Jackie,
I don't know if we have corresponded before on this surname or not. I have run across your Isaac Alger in my search for the father of Thomas Dawson ALGIERS, named William ALGIERS. They were contemporaries in time and location, both in the early-mid 1800's of middle-south GA. Here is some information on William ALGIERS; let me know if you think there might be a connection...

War Records show he served in the War of 1812 serving from July - Sept. of 1812 with Company A, Newnan's Command, of the Georgia Volunteers, Capt. Thomas Coleman's Company, as a private.

Married Elizabeth MASSEE/MASSEY of NC about 1815. She was the daughter of Drewry Massey and Barbara Needham.

1820 Georgia Land Lottery
William D. ALGIERS of Laurens Co. drew Habersham Co., GA

1830 Houston Co., Ga census
Algiers, Wm D. - 1m under 5, 1m 10-15 (T.D.?), 1m 50-60;
2 f 5-10,1f 10-15, 1f 30-40 and no slaves

1840 Macon Co., Ga census
Algiers, Wm. D. - 1m 5-10, 1m 10-15, 1m 20-30 (T.D.?), 1m 60-70;
1f 5-10, 1 f 10-15, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 20-30, 1 f 40-50 and no slaves

1850, no Algiers in Macon Co, but this one in Houston Co.:
Algiers, Isaac - 45, farmer, b. Ga wife Jane, 35; children: William (21), Wilson (18), James (15), Vincent (12), Isaac (8), Napoleon (6), and Arabella (1).

A William Alger (22) was listed as a farmer with the family of Needham Smith.

Laurens Co., GA Legal Record 1797 - 1832 shows William D. Algiers purchased land in 1817 in Laurens Co., witnessed by Needham Massee. Additionally, William D. Algiers was charged with assult, battery and trespassing several times in Laurens Co. between 1817 - 1822. In 1820 he was appointed executor of the estate of John Todd in Laurens Co., GA whose will added a codicil giving "my friends William D. and Elizabeth Algiers" land causing lawsuits over the estate.

Interested in your thoughts,
Julie O'Neil Perkins
