I'm essentially getting started too, however I've tried to take advantage of family members. Talk to whoever you can and maybe they can provide birth certificates, etc. Start with your family and work backwards. This is all pretty obvious I realize, but don't look at it as the whole picture or it'll be too overwhelming. Take it a step at a time. For me I've hit a wall but I know any minute I'll get a breakthrough that'll open it right up. Family TreeMaker has been a great help. If you can find an already submitted tree that has a common link with yours, you can add hundreds or thousands of people in a moments'time. This happened with me.In your message you mentioned Lawrence and Francis Alger....how are they related to you? In my family, Lawrence Alger was my father's uncle. He was married to a woman named Francis. As far as I know, they had two sons. Lawrence grew up in New York and had several brothers and sisters. Let me know if there's a connection...and....GOOD LUCK!
