Yes, one of Stoughton Sr.'s son's name was David Alger, he was married to a Elizabeth Beams (possible sister or daugther of one of the Beams pioneers of Oneonta, NY)

some notes from a friend in Oneonta, NY:

Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, NY:

"Mr Stoughton Alger died december the 23rd, 1822, aged 73 years"

"Mrs Ruth, wife of Mr Stoughton Alger died January 8th, 1816, aged 66 yrs."

(both of these stones are slate and the faces are starting to chip and fall off.)

Also there Stoughton Alger died May 19, 1860 age 77 yrs (this is the Jr.) and Sarah Gates, wife of Stoughton Alger died July 2, 1864 age 78yrs 7 mos

One of David's and Elizabeth's sons was a Delos (Deloss) Alger who married a Cornelia Ceperley, one of their sons was a Ira Wallace Alger married to a Mary Bennett, their son was a Leon Alger married to the widow Claire Mickel (maiden name Cummings) in turn they were the parents of my father Frank Arthur Alger.

Going the other way, it seems as though Simeon Alger's father was a Roger Alger, son of a Roger Alger who inturn was the son of a Jonathan Alger. Still have to find documents on this part.

hope some of this helps... good luck with your research.

Frank A. Alger, Jr.
