I am also descended from Stoughton Alger and have done much research on the Algers. My E-Mail is in process of change at the moment and I will get back to you. But, how are you related to Stoughton? The only documented child I have located is Stoughton Jr. in Oneonta. Stoughton Sr. served in the Rev. War near Ticonderoga and by 1790 was in Otsego town, N. Y. Died in Oneonta.[DAR registry]
The line from Stoughton to Roger is well documented in Connecticut records [Barbour coll.] Ruth Taylor is daughter of John and Mary Taylor of Glastonbury. I believe Sarah Stoughton is daughter of Nicholas Stoughton of Saybrook and Sarah Hoar. We believe our ancestor "Betsey" Alger, who married John Houghtailing was the daughter of Stoughton Alger [no documentation] except the juxtaposition of their names in the 1790 census of Otsego and the first child of John and Betsey is Simeon. Have much more.
