According to the 1880 census for Mentz, Cayuga Co., NY Henry Alred, who works on dry dock age 37 with wife, Esther J., age 34 and chilred: William H,, a laborer, age 14; George age 11 and Rosanah age 2. All b. NY. Have you checked the 1850 or 1860 census for James Alfred who lived in Mentz then? Could he be the father?
