Dear Gail,
We do not have a lot of information on this family. If all of their children were born in Franklin Co. TX (Mt. Vernon), then where were they in the 1880 TX census? Do you have a marriage date for James and Gillie?
We have them listed in one of our genealogies and can take James Franklin Alford back at least 4 generations. We have that Gillie Elizabeth Stephens was born Nov. 3, 1852, Tippah, MS. and James Franklin was born Dec. 18, 1845, Atlanta, Fulton Co. GA. I don't know why we have such detailed information when the only child for the couple that we have is Willie Elizabeth Alford, born Aug. 17, 1878, Mt. Vernon, Franklin Co. TX. She married James Elmer Gray, so perhaps it was a descendant of this couple who gave us the birthdates for her parents, but where were they 1880-1920?
I just found them in 1880--they were in Montague Co. TX and this was their enumeration:
J. F. Alford 34 M AL Farmer
G. E. 28 F MS
C. S. 5 M TX [son]
W. E. 2 F TX [dau--Willie Eliz.]
So far I haven't found them in 1900 or 1910 but in 1920, they were in Hall Co. TX. If that is where the family was, why did Mollie marry in NM? In 1920, the household consisted of Augustus, born 1886 TX, and a granddaughter, Bessie George, born 1909 OK.
We would love to know any more details about descendants of this family. We can give you background information on the Alford ancestors.
