Alfords from County Monaghan, Ireland

I am the great grandson of Robert Alford, b 1814 and Sarah Dolin Alford, b 1824. Robert Alford was the son of George Alford and Mary Byrneside and the Grandson of John Alford, a weaver, who emigrated from County Monaghan (according to Lynn Shelley). I have contacted a person engaged in history of Monaghan families who traveled to Monaghan last year. No information was forthcoming. I did find a reference, though, indicating that there were only about 400 protestant families in Monaghan at any time. The source did indicate that most came from Scotland, from the county where the town of Alford is located. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who has history on the Scottish branch. My brother, Thomas and I have a fair amount of information about the VA/WVA Alfords who came from Monroe Co and settled in the area of present day Lincoln and Putnam Counties. I am 64 years old myself and remember my Grandfather, Andrew Milton very well - he died when I was 11 years old.
Look forward to hearing from "kinfolk".
PS - I also have information about Barker, Byrneside, Patterson, and Dolin. Looking for Cochran and Dillon (Wyoming Co WV), but have little to show CHA
