Yes, as far as we know, Hatch was his real name. He signed it to several deeds and that was his name on marriage license and tax rolls. He died ca 1867, had been away in Barnes' Texas Rangers, CSA, when wife died of unknown causes, leaving four young children. He had been wounded in the leg. Came home to care for them, was plowing a field in Burleson Co. TX when he hit a stump, took blood poisoning and died. His brother Winfield was guardian of the orphan children: Mary Jane Alford, John Posey Alford, George W. Alford, and Caroline "Callie" Alford.
