Alfords in Shelby Co., TX

I spent a couple hours yesterday at Texas General Land Office (Austin), looking at land grant files on all Alfords, trying to determine when all the members of our family arrived in TX. There were three TX land grant certificates issued to Alfords in Shelby Co., TX:

James Alford had 1st class certificate #2 in Shelby Dist.

M. A. Alford had Preemption certificate #273 in Shelby Dist.

Sidney Alford had 1st class certificate #197 in Shelby Dist.

This probably indicates that John Alford who went to Shelby late 1800s had family members there earlier. 1st class was issued by Republic of Texas. None of these three are kin to ours, that I know of.
