John, According to our records, Lodwick Herrin Alford was born Feb 3, 1855 [from Lillian Alford Duffell, possibly from cemetery data?]. He married Sallie Swint, Sep 2, 1878, in Montgomery Co. AL (Book 6, p. 144). Sallie seems to be living with daughter Novella and son-in-law George McLendon in 1900, while Lodwick is living with sister (probably step-sister)Margaret Boswell (born 1850). He (age 53) may be the one listed in 1910 as a partner of J. W. Gause in Houston Co. He died Mar. 7, 1919, and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery Co. AL. We don't have descendants listed but obviously they at least had daughter Novella. He was related to the Alfords you mentioned but not closely. They all go back to Lodwick Alford, born New Kent Co., about 1710. Lodwick Herrin's parents according to our files were Julius Caesar Alford (born May 10, 1799, Greene Co. GA; died Jan 1, 1863, Montgomery Co. AL) and his third wife Martha Herrin Boswell (previously married to a Boswell; born May 19, 1919; died July 8, 1880). According to the DICTIONARY OF ALABAMA BIOGRAPHY, Mrs. Martha Herrin Boswell was the daughter of Henry Herrin and Sally McClendon and was the widow of Thomas Coke Boswell. She and Julius were married Feb. 22, 1852. It is probably she who is enumerated in 1870 as a widow with her Alford and Boswell children in Opelika, Lee Co. AL. If you have additional information about these families, please share it with us. We will be doing extensive Alford research in TX, GA, and NC in the next three years and hopefully solve some of these Alford problems. Did you see the other query concerning Turner Alford?
