James,

I am very interested in the Alfords you mention. Some of my distant kin lived in Natchitoches Parish, but they were mostly in Sabine Parish.

I think the only reference we have to an Alford in the 28th LA was a Lemuel Alford, Private, Co, K 28th. He was supposed to have deserted but record shows he was paroled in Natchitoches Parish, June 20 1865. Apparently there were two other Alfords paroled in Natchitoches Parish. One was J.S. Alford Co. G. 26th LA Inf. He was a POW and was paroled June 10th 1865. J.W. Alford, unit not known, was also a POW and was paroled in Natchitoches Parish June 21, 1865. We suspect that J.W. was Joseph W. Alford who died Aug 18, 1878 in Sabine Parish. He was born in Washington Parish about 1816.

We know of a big Tynes-Alford connection but it was in Pike Co., MS and Washington Parish, LA. However those Alfords were kin to those in Sabine and Natchitoches Parishes. I don't know that much about the Tynes - and they could have migrated in that direction.

We do have a record of Edna Lou Alford marriage to Prentice Grainger Bolton 1910 in Vernon Parish (they had a large family) and Joanne Alford to Andrew J. Montgomery in Sabine Parish.

I'm with the Alford American Family Association, Inc. and we know the history of most of the Alfords of Louisiana. Most of them came from NC to GA to LA. Some spent time in MS. We would appreciate whatever you can tell us about any Tennessee connections.

What can we do for you?

Gil Alford
