Wade Hampton Alford was my father's first cousin. I have a copy of his parent's marriage license. He has a sister, Carmen, that is still alive. I don't have any info on Wade's wife or his children and would appreciate any info you can give me. Here is a summary of the documented info that I have on Wade: He was the son of George Michael Alford (Uncle Mike) and Lena Estella Claytor. He had 4 brothers, Paul Michael died less than 2 mos old in 1915, William, Lertie Francis, Arthur (Punch); and one sister, Carmen. They lived in Rockbridge Co., Va. George Michael Alford was the son of William Andrew Alford and Sarah Catherine Claytor. He had at least three brothers, Millard F., John William, and James Franklin; and four sisters, Frances Margaret (my grandmother), Lola B., Mary Ella, and Alice. They lived in Augusta Co., VA. Wade's mother, Lena, was the daughter of Samuel H. Claytor and Margaret E. Robertson. Aunt Lena and Uncle Mike were 2nd cousins. Samuel H. Claytor was the son of Richard A. Claytor (b 1812) and Jane Virginia Chaplin (Chapman)(b 1821). Sarah Catherine Claytor (1854-1925), Uncle Mike's mother, was the daughter of William Claytor (1809-1896)and Matilda Chaplin (1825-1904). William and Richard were brothers, the sons of Thomas Claytor and Amelia. Jane and Matilda were sisters, the daughters of Joseph Chaplin and Mary Werten. All were of Augusta Co., VA from 1830. I suspect Joseph Chaplin lived in Rockingham county according to the 1810 census. William Alford (1855-1892) was the son of Robert Alford (1828-1888) and Melvina (Lavinia) Rogers. Robert was a Confederate Veteran. He served as a teamster in the 12th Va Cavalry, was captured at Amelia Courthouse on Apr 5, 1865 and was a POW at Point Lookout , MD until June 23, 1865. They lived in Augusta Co., VA. I think Robert may also have been from Rockingham county prior to 1850. Most of the info that I have given you can be obtained from the Augusta County Courthouse. I otained copies of the marriage bonds for William and Richard Claytor to the Chaplin sisters. Joseph was alive in 1830 (census records), but died sometime before 1838 when Jane married Richard. I also obtained marriage licenses of Wm and Sarah from the courthouse. I have not been to the courthouse in Rockbridge Co. to review records.
