Hello,
Are you looking for the family of Orman ALFORD? Orman and sons were killed in 1849 just west of present day Susanville CA by a falling tree. Mother was Polly/Mary, one son named Samuel returned to Kendall County Illinois. Son that stayed behind possibly Franklin Orman Alford.

If this is the family that you are looking for I have additional information.
