Dear Faye,
What makes you think Stricklands were related to Alfords in Robeson Co.? I assume the Jacob and Sion you are referring to are Jacob, born 1738, New Kent Co. VA, and his son Sion Alford, born 1763, Robeson Co. NC. Jacob's mother was Susannah Cade and is listed as such in his birth record. His wife was Mary Pace and she died after 1810. Jacob died in 1826. Sion's wife was Clarky McTyer. Sion died in 1832, his wife in 1830.
There are no Stricklands listed in the genealogy I have but I will check our database and see what I can find.
That does not mean there was no Strickland-Alford connection. There were many more in this family than the two you named.
We hope to learn a lot more about NC Alfords in our research effort in the next few years in anticipation of the AAFA meeting in 2001 in NC.
