Suzanne,
Did some more digging into my old research areas.Found some more evidence that Julius was the father of Thomas lafayette. All the Alfords, including Julius, were members of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Jones County in the early to mid 1820s.You can actually find the membership list on the Jones County site in USGENWEB.It turns out that John M. Gay, Elizabeth's father, (mispelled as "Gray"" was also a member at the same time.Several Gay's came through Jones County.Today they are all in San Francisco (JUST KIDDING).Below you will find my latest write-up on Julius and descendents.
John Rogers
Job’s third oldest son, (18) Julius Charles Alford, named after his grandfather, was born in 1805 in Wake County, North Carolina. He grew up in Wake County and later, as a teenager, in Jones County, Georgia.Julius was a member of Caney Creek (New Hope) Baptist Church in Jones County in 1822.In about 1823, he moved, with his parents to Upson County, Georgia. In 1827 the young Julius was granted land in Upson County. That same year he married Elizabeth Gay (1808-1847), daughter of John M. and Margaret Gay.Julius had apparently known the Gay family ever since growing up in Jones County, as John M. Gay was a member of New Hope Church in Jones County in 1823.The Alfords, including Julius were also members.By 1830 Julius had moved to Talbot County, just west of Upson. He was shown on the 1830 Talbot County, Georgia census in Duprees District, not far from his father and brother, John Turner Alford. Also living nearby was his father-in-law, John M.Gay, who had also moved from Upson County. In 1832 Julius was serving as a justice on the Inferior Court in Talbot County. In 1838 he may have been living briefly in Upson County, where he was serving as a Justice of the Peace (he married Wiley Owens to Mary Sockwell on 3/18/1838).He was back in Talbot County in 1840.The 1840 census lists him with 3 sons and 2 daughters. In 1847, Elizabeth, his wife, died.Shortly before 1850, family legend says he left Georgia for South Alabama with his younger children. His two older sons, Thomas and Columbus, went to live with maternal relatives.Nothing else is known of Julius at this time.Julius and Elizabeth had at least the following children:
(33a) Thomas Lafayette(2/16/1834-4/28/1899)b. Talbot Co., Ga.M. Sarah Hunter
(33b) Columbus A.(1838-aft 1865)b. Talbot Co., Ga.M. unknown
(33a) Thomas Lafayette Alford, son of Julius Charles Alford, was born on February 16, 1834 in Talbot County, Georgia. He grew up there until his teenage years. In 1847 his mother, Elizabeth, died. His father took his younger siblings and moved to South Alabama.Thomas, however, went to live with his mother’s brother, James Gay, in Chambers County, Alabama. In about 1854, Thomas married Sarah Alice Elizabeth Hunter (1834-1879) in Randolph County, Alabama. The family is found in the southern division of Randolph County in 1860.On February 5, 1862, he joined Company H of the Alabama Mounted Volunteers, CSA 8th Cavalry at Cussetta, Alabama. After the war, Thomas came home and moved his family next door to Clay County, Alabama, near Millerville. There, like his father before him, he served many years as a Justice of the Peace, and lived there until his death. In 1879, his wife died.On May 28, 1882, Thomas remarried to Samantha J. Phillips (2/1854-aft 1910) in Clay County.Thomas Alford died on April 28, 1899.He is buried at Antioch Cemetery on Highway 15 in Randolph County, Alabama.Thomas Lafayette and Sarah Alice Alford had the following children:
(99) Mary M.C.E. (3/1854-3/1923) b. Randolph Co., Al.m. James J. Robinson

(33b) Columbus A. Alford, son of Julius Charles Alford, was born in 1838 in Talbot County, Georgia. He spent his early childhood there, until 1847 when his mother died. After her death, he went to live with his maternal grandparents, John and and Margaret Gay, in Chambers County, Alabama. He is found with them in the 1850 census of Chambers County. His father took his younger siblings to South Alabama prior to 1850.By 1860 he had moved in with his older brother, Thomas Lafayette, in Randolph County, Alabama.Columbus served in the CSA artillery during the Civil War.Nothing else is known of Columbus Alford.
(99) Mary Cordelia Miranda Elizabeth Alford, daughter of Thomas Lafayette Alford, was born in March 1854 in Randolph County, Alabama. She grew up there and later in Clay County, Alabama. In 1870 she is shown with her parents in Millerville, Clay County, Alabama. On October 26, 1879, Mary married James Robinson (?-?) at her father’s home in Clay County. She died in April 1923.Nothing else is known of her.

Virgil’s wife, Mary, died on January 9, 1926 and was buried at Bethany Primitive Baptist Church in the Mountain Community in Clay County.Virgil died August 8, 1932, and is buried next to his wife.Virgil and Mary Alford had the following children:
