I am looking for any information on Charles G. M. (Mallory) Alford who, according to his discharge from the Union Army, Missouri Volunteers, was born in Tioga County, PA in 1828. He died in Calhoun County, IL in 1872. I believe he is the son of Chauncey Alford and Harriet___ but have no proof. There is an 1850 census record that lists a Harriet Alford as head of household in Illinois that appears to fit, but no husband listed. She does have a son Chauncey, and given the birthplaces listed for the children they had recently lived in Ohio and before that PA. Histories of Tioga County list a Chauncey Alford who was there in the late 1810's and 1820's who was reported to have come from Connecticut and moved on to Ohio. The 1840 census lists a Chauncey Alford in Scioto County, OH but of course does not list names of others in the household. If you can shed any further light on this family I would be deeply appreciative. Mallory's widow Sarah eventually moved to Hannibal, MO with her son Charles. I would also like any information on these people. Sarah Alford died in 1900.
