There is a reference to a Polly Alford listed as mother of Martha (Alford) Massey b.1851 d.1917. Martha's obit reference in Smithfield Herald indicated that her death was the result of being burned. I believe that Polly Ann Avera b.1830 d.1902 @73,(1900 US Census,Image 61,Ed#64) was married to John Alford( b.1820 )Dec 1848 & that they were Mordecai's parents.I am still searching, but now live in GA. There are still so many gaps. Katie Alford (b.1880 d.1939) was my ggrandmother. She married William L. Sutton. My grandmother Lena Sutton m. Adolphus G. Jones. His mother was a Hardee.Alford-Sutton-Jones-Hardee-Mewborn, they all seem to merge . This is all family on my father's side. He was born in Smithfield & still lives in NC. If any of these names ring a bell, please let me know. All of this is to the best of my knowledge at this time. Thanks for the information. Maybe we can put this Mordecai puzzle together sometime. My address is Sabl356256@aol.com if you would like to write me there. I would appreciate anything you have on the family. Thanks again!
