We are familiar with a a large Alford family of Macoupin Co., IL at that time. A Charles Alford, born 1790 in NC and his family moved there. His son John C. Alford had a son who we show as Willam M. Alford but the M could have been a transcription error from the census. William was born about 1840 in Tennessee. There were several brothers with several families in the County. Some moved to California and some moved back to TN.

At our annual corp. meeting and national Alford reunion in Paducah KY we will have a descendant from the CA branch and the eastern branch. I know the CA folks will not be able to help but the others might. I've never talked to them and they are not online.

We have your posting in this file and will try to get back to you if and when we make a discovery worthy of note. He may or may not be the William you want.

Gil Alford, Pres. AAFA, Inc.
