I happened to notice this record again recently and decided I needed to post this on the Alford Family Genealogy Forum. My thought was that someone could be looking for Artimmis Alford in 1850 and not have a clue as where to find him. Well, he was living in the household of John Newsome of Putnam Co., Georgia. From the 1850 Federal Census for Putnam Co., GA, p. 295 is the following: Name/Age/Birthplace John Newsome,70,NC Martha,36,GA (2nd. wife of John) John,17,GA Mary,14,GA John S.,7,GA Emily F.,5,GA Isaac,2,GA Artimmis Alford,27,GA,Farmer The value of John Newsome's estate is given as $12,000.00. Comment: As mentioned before on this forum, the 1st wife of John Newsome was Martha "Patsy" Alford. She was a daughter of William Alford, Sr. of Hancock Co., GA (Will of Wm. Alford, Sr. probated May 2, 1825 in Hancock Co.). Patsy married John Newsome on Feb. 7, 1807 in Hancock Co. John's parents, Isaac Newsome and Mary "Molly" Dortch Newsome, were living in Hancock Co. at that time. Patsy died Sept. 11, 1835 at the age of 49 (Christian Index Obituaries 1822-1879). John married 2nd Martha Ward on Sept. 30, 1841 in Morgan Co., GA (John owned two plantations at that time, one in Putnam Co. and the other in Morgan Co.). My speculation is that this Artimmis Alford was a nephew of Patsy Alford Newsome. Does anyone know if my speculation is correct, or wrong?
