Gale,
Are you sure these Alfords came from Overton Co. TN? And that they migrated to Carroll Co. AR in the 1840's? In our extraction of the 1850 Carroll Co. AR census, there are no Alfords. The Thomas H. Alford who is in Carroll Co. AR in 1860 was the son of John Alford and Jane McElhatten (married Grainger Co. TN, 1811). Thomas' wife is named Jane in that census. Is this Sara J. Sisco? Do you have a marriage record and a date of her death? Also have you been able to find them in the 1870 AR census? Do you have a complete listing of their children?

AAFA has much information on the descendants of this family but would be happy to have yours to add to our database. We do not know the whereabouts of John and Jane (James in 1860 census) after Thomas joined the CSA in 1862. Also we do not have a clue as to the parents of John Alford. He was born abour 1787 in NC. He was bound out (as an orphan which probably meant his father was deceased) to learn to be a miller in 1804, in Grainger Co. TN. His family went to Knox, Roane and Meigs Counties before going to AR and MO in the early to mid-1850's. We have no evidence that they were ever in Overton Co. TN. Is that where the Siscos came from?

Let's share information.
