William H. Alford 32nd Illinois Infantry

In 1862, my great-great-Grandfather, Joab Fortner, died in Kentucky. He was a member of the Second Tennessee Volunteers (Federal Army). He left a wife, Nancy Melvina (Hollingsworth) and two small children, Sally, age two and John age two months. In 1873, Nancy married William H. Alford in Macoupin County Ill. At a latter date, they moved to Claiborne County, Tennessee, where Nancy was born and her family lived. William became the legal guardian of my great-Grandfather John W. Fortner and his sister Sally. He and Nancy had no children of their own. William is buried in the Yoakum Chapel Cemetary in Speedwell, Tennessee (Claiborne County). There is no date on the gravestone, but it is a military marker that reads: Co. A 32 Ill. Inf. Although I am not researching the Alford family, I am curious about my great-Grandfathers' step-father and his family origin. I also thought someone might be working on William Alfords's family and could use the information.
