Ellen, Adaline Bates married Johnson Hulbert Alford who was born 1802 and died 1849. Johnson and his older brothers George G. Alford and Ethan Allen Alford came down to Missouri from Michigan where there father died in 1851. George G., who settled in New Madrid Co later moved to Texas and was the Quartermaster General to Sam Houston in the battle for Texas Independence. There is a painting in the entrance of the Texas Capitol showing George standing in from of Sam, reclining injured against a tree, at the surrender of Santa Anna. Johnson stayed in the area and as I remember moved up closer to ST. Louis and I believe Adaline was found there in censuses after his death. What specifically did you wish to know and I'll look it up. Unfortunatley we cannot tell you about her Bates family. We have several Alford-Bates unions over the years but know nothing of their families. I'm with the ALFORD AMERICAN FAMILY ASSOCIATION, INC. and we would appreciate your sharing with us anything you know about Alfords and their descendants (no matter the surname.) We show Johnson and Adaline had two children: Chinonda and Louis. We know nothing more on either of them. If you are related to these folks we have members who descend from Ethan Allen as well as from George G. We can trace these Alfords back through Boston to England and the 1500's. What can we do for you? Our mailing address is AAFA, INC., POB 1586, Florissant MO 63031.
