Aura Nivia Alfaro Alfaro - My family is from Isabela, a town on the northwestern tip of Puerto Rico. At present, I have many relatives living in various parts of the island, particularly in the metropolitan area of San Juan, the capital city. From the Isabela family there are already several living in different parts of the States: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, among others. In Puerto Rico, there are Alfaros in the towns of Morovis, the neighboring town of Orocovis (in the central part of the island), and Juana Díaz (to the south). According to my grandparents, there were three brothers from the Canary Islands who arrived in Puerto Rico and later separated, each establishing himself in the above-mentioned towns. The Alfaros in Puerto Rico have largely stood out for their ability with words and arts, among the most well known being the late author Abelardo Díaz Alfaro, the clothing designer Carlota Alfaro, university professors and academis leaders with the surnames Quintero Alfaro; politicians, lawyers, journalists, teachers, and some still active in the U.S. Armed Forces. The young engineer Adrián Augusto Alfaro wrote the danza that as early as some five years ago was adopted as Isabela's anthem. In the early 1920s, the Alfaro family tree appears linked to the surnames Chico, Román, Juarbe, Aldarondo, Calero, Augusto, Mercado, and Galván, among others.
