I read the same info A. Alfaro de Prado did. I had also read that Alfaro's immigrated from that northern Spanish town to France as well; and that the surname, originating around the 12th century, belonged to both Jewish & non-Jewish families. What's more, I have read that the surname Alfaro may be of Jewish origin. I'm originally from Mexico & have been raised in So. Cal. Isn't that something? We share a great multi-cultural name in great multi-cultural America--named after an Italian in a very diverse hemishphere thought to be India by the Spaniards, English, French and others!
