I also saw the reference to John George Alewine (many spellings) being a professor at the Univ. of Heidelberg in Baden.I wrote to the archives of the Univ. and was sent an email telling me that there was no John George Genevessar (I gave them multiple spellings as I have seen)at the Univ. of Heidelberg during the time period listed.I used 1720 to 1760 as my time frame. He died in SC in 1768 and was born in 1710 so I figured that would be the right time frame if it was true. They had no one even with those first names according to the gentleman who sent me the email. So, guess that myth is debunked. However, he did come to the US with a son Michael and his wife Catherine.I would be interested in any info that you have about this family and I am willing to share [email protected]
