??? MORE UNANSWERED QUESTIONS???
Since becoming interested in my Alewine Family Genealogy, many mysteries and unanswered questions have surfaced. One of the most compelling to me is "THE NAME CHANGE" of John George after his arrival to The Dutch Fork settlement. I'm sure that we all would like to know any facts or theories as to the circumstances of, or the reason for the change??? How or why the new name became "ALEWINE" or even more so, what exactly was our Family name originaly. I"ve heard of several possibilities mentioned and they all begin the same, with "GENE". (GENEWYN - GENEWYER - GENESAYER - GENEROYER - GENEVESSER)So much for the old unanswered questions, now I have a new one. My son recently came home from school, where he had been introduced to a friend's mother. Upon finding out my son's name was "ALEWINE" she told him that she had been born and raised in South Carolina and that all the Alewine's she had ever known there were African American. This is a mystery to me, but it may not be to others. If anyone can shed light or has information on this subject, I would be interested.
