Diana, We most certainly are cousins!!! I remember my grandmother talking about Aunt Ida. Was she the one who went to Idaho or was it Nevada? Where did she die?? I have very little info but I will give you what I have. Ira Baker Brown b. June 27, 1829 in Birmingham, Essex Co., New York married Martha Abigail Hopkins b. c. 1834 in Somerset, Niagara Co., New York They were married Dec. 9, 1853 in Wayne County Michigan????? I have no verification for any of the dates given above. These all came from the backs of old pictures and an old letter. I have so far been unable to verify any of them. The names of possible children that I have are: Nellie Brown b. Sept. 17, 1854 Detroit,MI Ida Brown b. Aug. 30, 1856 in Lansing, MI Samuel H. Brown b. Jan. 11, 1869 d. 1954 Wallace Brown Charles Brown Sue Brown Grace Brown * * * * I have pictures of some of these people, that's where I got the names. I have never been able to find them in any census. YET! The only thing I have from my Grandmother was a handwritten letter that sais something to the effect that "These descendants of Stephen Hopkins are eligible to membership in the Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution. Samuel and Phylancia Hopkins of Vermont Martha Abigail Hiopkins Children of Martha Abigail Hopkins Brown are the ninth generation. Nellie Brown married Cyrus Wells Kirk March 1, 1877 in Chillicothe, MO. John Elmer Kirk b. 1882 in Colorado Springs, CO. married Elinor Eugenia Hynes. Children of John E. Kirk and Elinor "Nell" are the 11th generation = Rose E. Kirk married Franklin Hontz.....etc. etc." Rose and Franklin are my grandparents From the above statement I've searched since 1980 for Martha A. Hopkins parents as Samuel and Phylancia Hopkins. I do not think that is accurate. It was all that I had to work with at the time. In the RLDS Library IGI I found #0506 - State of New York Birth Records: Hopkins, Martha A. Born July 25, 1829, Orleans, Ridgeway, New York. Parents: Joseph W. Hopkins and Abigail Aldrich. The other thing that confuses me is the fact that in the 1850 MI census there is an entry for an Ira Brown age 28, b. NY, blacksmith, wife Phillelia, age 20, b.NY son Cyrenus age 9/12 in MI. They are listed in Plymouth Twp. But by the 1860 census they are missing. With what you've just given me I guess they were in Lansing, MI possibly in 1860. This needs to be checked. I have a copy of a picture of a man I presume to be Ira Baker Brown as well as a picture of Martha A. Hopkins. I have been trying to sort out this family for years and any help would be greatly appreciated! I don't know how much is fact and how much is wishful thinking??? Kathleen
