Lyman Aldrich 1834 - 1904, trying to find parents

I am trying to find the parents and/or siblings of Lyman Aldrich born in NY Dec 1834-1837, died in Phelps Co., MO Dec 1904.

He enlisted in Union army, Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, Vermont in June of 1862 and was discharged with disability in Feb 1863.

I have been unable to find him on any census prior to 1870.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.
