Aldrich Families of Macomb County, Michigan
Posted by: Suzanne Frantz (ID *****4730) Date: February 10, 2011 at 07:51:09
  of 1912

I am researching the two branches of the Aldrich family who settled in Macomb County, Michigan. My husband is descended from both branches.

First, the "Ontario County, New York," branch: Frederick Aldrich, and his brother Peter, sons of Nathan Aldrich and Lucy Clark. Nathan came from Adams, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, and was one of the first settlers of the Town of Farmington, Ontario County, New York. Two histories give Nathan different fathers; one states Nathan was the son of Moses Aldrich; the other, Peter Aldrich.
The younger Peter Aldrich purchased property in Macomb County, Michigan, 1829. His brother Frederick purchased property in Macomb County 1837. Both are enumerated in Armada Township, Macomb County, Michigan, in 1840, along with a "W." Aldrich I cannot identify. Another Aldrich in this census, living in the same area, "S." Aldrich, was Samuel Aldrich son of Peter; Albert Aldrich also enumerated was a son of Frederick. Frederick was born 9 Oct. 1793 in Adams, Berkshire Co., Mass., and died 10 June 1865 in Armada Township, Macomb Co., Mich. His wife was Catharine Finch and they were the parents of 10 children; both Frederick and Catherine are buried in Hadley Cemetery near the village of Armada. Fred's brother Peter was born about 1785 also in Adams; he died in Macomb County about July 1835; his wife was Parthena and they had about 6 children; I have no burial place for Peter; Parthena died in Kalamazoo County 22 Feb. 1858 and is buried there.

Second Aldrich family the "Massachusetts Aldrichs" : siblings Seth, Hannah, and Eliza, children of Ebenezer Aldrich and Isabel Chase of Douglas/Uxbridge, Worcester County, Mass., and later Adams, Berkshire Co., Mass. Seth purchased land in Macomb County, Mich., 1832. Sister Hannah married David Pratt; Eliza remained single. This family had Quaker origins. Seth was born 2 Nov. 1804, Douglas, Worcester Co., Mass., and died 30 March 1884, Armada Township, Macomb Co., Mich., buried Willow Grove Cemetery, Armada. His first wife was Rachel Burlingame; his second was Louisa Wyman. There were children by both wives.

There are some "extra" Aldrichs floating around Macomb Co. in addition to the "W." Aldrich of 1840. One is Clarkson Aldrich, 1 Nov. 1822 - 4 Oct. 1849, buried Hadley Cemetery; another is Albert C. Aldrich, born Mass., 1828 - 1862, also buried Hadley Cemetery.

Both these Aldrich families had siblings who remained in Mass. or New York.

I would be happy to correspond with anyone interested in these families.
