This is more a response to your 12/19/2007 post. Were you able to make your paternal connection? I have a Robert L Soule born 4 Apr 1926 in Mishawaka, St. Joseph, Indiana. Documentation comes from 1930 US Census Mishawaka, St. Joseph, Indiana, Page 5 out of 10. His father: Herbert Leroy Soule, born 9 Oct 1904, also from Indiana, has the middle name, 'Leroy' you were looking for. Possible?
