Oddly enough I am from the English branch of the family & have a fair bit of info on the family from about 1776 to the present day.I know that some of the family went off to the colonies but my trail stops there so your info & the other postings have been useful. In England they went on to be doctors, surgeons & schoolteachers.Actually, I understand that we're all decended from a family that originated in East Anglia (in particular a village/town called East Dereham in Norfolk UK). At least that's where my decendants come from... There's still one of the original Aldises there who used to run the Undertakers and a well known Department store in a town hearby called Fakenham - the store is called naturally, Aldis! Prior to this relative recent history we're from central Europe or Germany as was (during Saxon times, i'd guess!) so if there's anything you'd like me to search out for you over here in the UK - let me know.
No harm in forging links anyhow!Have a merry Christmas.
Keith Aldis
